I just heard AMD bet on NVIDIA, this word was out from their mouth, if
it was from a mag editor, I won't be that serious.

AMD said they bet in NVIDIA? weird... where did u find that? just take it as marketing talk...

YES, VIA is my favorite and will always be, but as I said AMD would
like to bet on NVIDIA, this really forces me to leave AMD on SMP
platform.

What makes you forget the AMD 8000 chipset so much? Which is doing a good job, i'd favour it over the VIA.

But these chipsets are not used widely as VIA's, and you could get
lots of trouble in open source world, either SATA will not work or
USB not work, or ACPI won't work (NVIDIA always has this problem, and
will continue the story.)

Yes maybe, however the AMD ones are support by e.g. SUN for Linux and Solarisx86, so i guess they should be used more often in the future.
S-ATA does not depend on the Chipset directly. Most boards use 3rd party SATA controllers, like the one from promise or whatever.
