    The basic problem here is that it is very difficult to diagnose failures
    that occur during booting.  It does sound like the driver is the
    culprit based on the output presented.  If a FreeBSD-4.x CD boots 
    then there might be something we can figure out from the CVS logs but
    it's a shot in the dark.
