I don't know why, but my application raises an illegal instruction (signal 4) exception if it is linked with -pthread.

Main binary must be linked against libpthread if any DSO mgiht depend on that.

anyone have any familarity of how the interpreter works?

wondering if it does wierd things with sigaltstack, etc to handle code generation that is interating with the FP/signals work a while back..

Don't know too much about signalstack. All I can say is that it (Ruby)
does lightweight threading using alarm(3), and it scans the stack for memory references (conservative garbage collection).
