Well I agree that in general the hurdle of contributing to a wiki is
substantially lower (in thought) than of sending textual changes to a
documentation project.

The only thing I am concerned about is conversion of this stuff into, say, a
PDF.  Because how nice a wiki might be, you will not always have Internet
access nor a webbrowser available.
And some people, like me, prefer to print documents in order to read them.
