Thanks. That made me notice that my list routine for finding tools forgot 
SCRIPTS. So I also found:

rcrun (and family), but I don't see any docs for it. The 
rcenable/rcdisable look useful.

p.s. There was discussion on a NetBSD list about adding an "rc" 
administration tool which now I see is very similar to rcrun.
