No, those partitions are added as /dev/<disk>h and up. You can just
mount them without performing any magic first.

Oooh, wait! Are you talking about NetBSD and OpenBSD? If yes, then I need more information from you. Please provide a link to some website explaining how to mount a DOS partition without adding it to the NetBSD/OpenBSD disklabel first.
