Help with synergy

I don't know how widespread the usage of synergy is, but it's a
program in the sysutil freebsd ports and it's extremely useful to me.
I did a normal pkg_add -r synergy without any problems on DFBDS 1.1,
but when I tested the connection, it connects, but doesn't function
properly. This is all that's in my log file:

NOTE: accepted client connection 
WARNING: protocol error from client "<unknown>" 

Mind you, this worked perfectly with FreeBSD 5.3RC1, so what would be
the difference in DragonFly that this wouldn't work? I thought TCP/IP
was TCP/IP?
