This patch, mostly obtained from FreeBSD CURRENT, allows many ac97
mixers and cards to work properly again. It works for me at least. :)

Please test and review, (and hopefully) commit.

Going to test later with the drm2 patch at the same build. just gotta get it patched correctly.

I do have a problem with sound right now actually, it's related to asmodai's import of audigy/audigy2 driver. When I try to control the sound with mixer (recent sources) I can't control the volume at all. If I set -all- the volume to "0:0", sound still burst out at full volume in my headphones if I try to listen to anything.

This computer does have two soundcards, a builtin (but disabled in bios) AC97 and a SBLive 1024.

dmesg produces following:
pcm0: <Creative EMU10K1> port 0x9400-0x941f irq 11 at device 11.0 on pci2
pcm0: <SigmaTel STAC9721/9723 ac97 codec>

Mayb this patch of yours will help me, I dont know. If I remove asmodais audigy/audigy2 support everything works fine again, except that my rear speakers dis-appear :-(

Erik.
