seriously, we should update the style(9) manpage to reflect our dislike to
__P.
my wording is surely not manpage-compliant, but this may be a start.

Looks nice to me. It is ridicules to keep the __P() around. In the past
no one would take the time to remove them from the source and in the
traditional FreeBSD way if someone its was quickly rejected. The reason
I've started to take the time as I'm working on being able to compile the
source tree with compilers other than gcc(1). The current one I'm working
with makes a lot of noise when encountering these little buggers.
