Rare indeed is the production box that doesn't have fairly consistent peak and valley patterns in that 24 hours - and the week.


Not hard to adjust to those. And/or 'renice' things to suit.

    Laptops might need a 'cleanup' button. I just don't know when the best
    time to run hammer cleanup would be, or for how long.  Desktops might
    make do with an hourly poke.

As a sidenote:
If we have some sort of automation in the laptop cleanup system, it would be
nice for it to be aware of whether the laptop is running on battery or not. Sort
of like how "desktop search" programs pause indexing when running on battery power.
