some things they offer over vinum is: easiness of setup, no disklabel stuff, if a drive fails just go into the setup and rebuild it. its easy (TM).

Replacing a drive in vinum is not harder. In fact, using RAID-1 for
whole disks is often duplicating work, e.g. if you actually use
swap space for MFS etc.
Sure, but it is convenient to mirror a drive in 2 or 3 easy steps, no config file, just read instructions and follow them. Also todays IDE disks are so big a gb here or there doesnt matter all that much.

As long as theres no quick way to RAID-1 all partitions including / whats the point?

raidframe could do that :-(

Indeed, Ive used it a few times before and its nice (way better than vinum in my opinion)
If we had ZFS port done then there would really be no point in using onboard RAID, I agree.

ZFS won't fix or replace real RAID.
Cheap onboard RAID < ZFS > Vinum

:)
