smp kernel hangs on P-4 w/htt

The boot hangs at this point:

installed MI handler for int 7
installed MI handler for int 0
APIC_IO: Testing 8254 interrupt delivery
APIC_IO: Broken MP table detected: 8254 is not connected to IOAPIC #0
intpin
2
APIC_IO: routing 8254 via 8259 and IOAPIC #0 intpin 0
SMP: AP CPU #1 Launched!
acd0: CDROM <CD-224E> at ata1-master PIO4

[hangs]

There was some question when this was last tried
as the installation did not have a working 'menu'
boot option due to some install uh.. process.

Soo.. disabling acpi was tried with the unset command at the
boot prompt. This hung with an smp kernel.

Now disabling acpi is tried using the boot menu provisions
(maybe more reliable ?) but it hangs.

With the recent work on the boot code, the manually
installed machine is fine now in that respect.

The machine has a Supermicro P4SCT+ motherboard
which has an Intel chipset.

The cpu:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz (3394.22-MHz 686-class CPU)
  Origin = "GenuineIntel"  Id = 0xf29  Stepping = 9
Features=0xbfebfbff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,
PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CLFLUSH,DTS,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS,
HTT,TM,PBE>
Hyperthreading: 2 logical CPUs
