  Synchronise with FreeBSD:
  
  Reduce libc.so's memory footprint by lazily allocating memory used internally
  by basename() and dirname().
  
  Furthermore:
  
  Drop sizeof(bname) and replace with MAXPATHLEN since that is what it boils
  down to.
