Bernhard,

this is because the ports system still uses -b for specifying the suffix 
(the new patch uses -z or --suffix; the latter also works for GPL 
patch). Blame it on me, I should've checked /usr/ports. :(

Andreas Hauser has provided a patch for /usr/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk that 
fixes it:

He's also filed a problem report to FreeBSD folks:

Maybe someone with connections to the FreeBSD committers can get them to
