Re: cvs commit: src/sys/dev/disk/ata ata-dma.c ata-pci.c
:Can the GPL'ed driver be used as documentation? You only need to know
:which bits to twiddle to make it go. Needless to say, the dfly driver
:should be coded from scratch in a cleanroom-kinda-way.
:
:But indeed, just plonking in an intel fxp card or somesuch does the
:trick too :)

In fact comments in the GPL driver state that it was developed from
a cleanroom reverse engineering of the PCI card's registers. It
should be possible to dig up the original reverse engineered register
set.
I can't do this myself but I think there are some FreeBSD people
interested in doing it, who hopefully got the email I sent them despite
my posting to freebsd-hackers getting stuck in the list manager's queue
due to the new security thing they've instituted on the freebsd lists.
I don't think they were aware of the GPL'd linux driver.
