What mouse type and port are you using for X? I had a very skippy (but
working) mouse in X when I used the PS/2 driver and direct access to 
/dev/psm0 in X instead of using moused and /dev/sysmouse. Also see the
recent "mouse driver" thread on the "users" mailing list for the latter
configuration.

I didn't bother to find out what's wrong with the Xorg PS/2 driver...
