FreeBSD 5.x does not even boot without ACPI on . Dfly seems to boot without it.


For the problem of buildworld, are you using GCC 2 or GCC 3?
GCC2 AFAIK, but this problem smells like GCC3 bug. I fixed it by booting with snapshot CD, mounted root partition, cpdup-ed /boot to root partition on 3ware and by issuing disklabel with all parameters (B,b,s).
