It's hard to come up with a perfect item to throw at you guys given
those parameters, but I would say "don't worry about it too much".
Really. The best way to approach a project like this is to simply
play around with it and you will slowly get used to it and perhaps
fall into an area of the project that you enjoy working on.
I guess throwing someone into the deep-end (right smack into kernel
programming) is not one of my better ideas :-)
