    'Generic PCI ATA controller' is a bad sign.  What does FreeBSD say the controller 
    is for ata0/ata1 ?

    pciconf -l output (from FreeBSD) on this machine would also help.

    It could be as simple as adding the PCI ID for the particular ata chipset.
