disabling sendmail

Is there a clean way to disable sendmail? (And if not, what club do I 
use?)

I've got all of these in rc.conf:.. 
 
sendmail_enable="NO"
sendmail_submit_enable="NO"
sendmail_flags="NO"

. . yet the sendmail Queue runner thing lingers on. 

What line should I add, and to what file?

Are there any services on by default that rely on sendmail?

I don't need an MTA for now, so I'd rather turn it off. I know I can 
stop it with /etc/rc.d/sendmail stop, but I flip the switch a lot on 
this box, so it'd be nice to have rc take care of it.
