    Hmm... how about this... reverse the sense of the environment
    variable.  Have a 'debug.acpi.enabled' to enable services which
    we disable by default, instead of ripping the code out.  That
    would make testing fairly straightforward.

    (And we would also have the kernel print which services are 
    enabled and which are not in the dmesg).
