uptodate system. On any BSD, portupgrade or not, it's a royal pain.
A fresh install is easier.

?? Have never found portupgrade to be *that* broken!

Might need the odd package and/or depends manually
removed/upgraded, but seldom more than that plus a
DB clean-up run or two.

One thing apt/dpkg can't do is let different versions of the same package coexist, as pkgsrc can.

That happens to be very important.

Many legacy and 'lesser' systems, including CP/M
DOS, WinWoes, Netware, OS/2, VMS, and just about
all 'big iron' OS'en have been able to handle that in
one way or another for multiple decades, as can a *N*X.

But only a few of those could easily do so in an
'automatic' manner, and DragonFlyBSD needs
to become one of those.
