DFly and FreeBSD 4.10 side-by-side?

Rather than swapping hard drives, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to
keep the DFly source repo, and build a kernel next to my FreeBSD kernel,
then switch back and forth.  Somewhere (an ONLAMP interview, IIRC) I read
about a developer doing this.
