My understand, which is often wrong, is that vchan's don't actually 
allow multiple apps to access /dev/dsp0, but instead create numerous
virtual channels that can be acessed through dsp0.1, dsp0,2, etc.

Unfortunately, I'm not in front of my dbsd box, so I have no way of
testing this now :-)
