Missing perl dependency causes some unhappiness with packages

Just installed a 1.2 stock release in VMware, and then did a:
   pkg_add http://gobsd.com/packages/All/xterm-196_3.tgz

It grabs the dependencies properly, but fails to install 
XFree86-libraries-4.4.0_2; message is:

Fetching http://gobsd.com/packages/All/XFree86-libraries-4.4.0_2.tgz... 
Done.
env: perl: No such file or directory
pkg_add: command '/usr/X11R6/bin/mkhtmlindex 
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/html' failed

Looks like not having Perl in the basic install is making some 
ports/packages unhappy... <sigh>
